James Riley, Jr.

DIRECTOR (2020 – 2024)

James Riley, Jr. served as the fourth director of Project ENRICH from 2020 to 2024, leading the program through one of the most challenging periods in its history—the COVID-19 pandemic. Under his leadership, the program adapted to unprecedented circumstances by implementing a virtual platform that allowed students to continue engaging with college preparation resources. One of his key initiatives was introducing virtual college tours, which provided high school students with firsthand insights from current college students and graduates. These sessions not only gave students a realistic perspective on college life but also allowed them to hear the passion and experiences of those who had walked the path before them.

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Riley remained committed to ensuring students received a high-quality experience. He successfully secured guest speakers who inspired and motivated students, including the first African American NFL referee, a proud graduate of Norfolk State University. His vision was to uphold and push the standard of excellence that Project ENRICH represents, ensuring that every student had access to the necessary resources for success.

  • One of the most memorable moments of his tenure was witnessing the students' excitement and engagement during the virtual sessions, proving that even in a remote setting, meaningful connections and learning experiences could thrive. His advice to future directors is to continue elevating the program’s legacy by adapting to changing times while staying true to its mission—providing students with invaluable resources and guidance as they navigate their path to higher education.

Currently, James Riley, Jr. serves as an Immigration Officer with the Department of Homeland Security, where he is responsible for vetting and combating fraud and national security threats.
